Benifits of Becoming a Webmaster

by Jake O'Callaghan

in General

I am always thinking about if I want to become a webmaster as a my career.  I have written reasons why anyone would want to become a webmaster.  I think it’s a really good career, just hard to make a living off of.  I think that starting early will give me a great advantage though.

Anyways, here is my list:

  1. You get to write a lot.  I personally love to write, and when you write a lot you improve your writing skills.
  2. You get to be your own boss.  Nothing is better than not listening to anyone.
  3. You do many different things.  You never know what you have to do.  Doing many different things is keeps it fresh.
  4. Let it sit.  Some types of websites do the work for you.
  5. Work your own hours.  Not many jobs are as flexible as being a webmaster.  At the beginning you are usually going to have to work a lot though.
  6. Create websites/blogs about anything.  Have a passion? Create a blog or website about it.
  7. Get feedback.  Great comments and emails make you feel good.
  8. Have something that’s yours.  Your website is owned by you, and that is a great feeling.
  9. Make it look however you want.  You get to show your creative side, and you feel pride when your site looks good.
  10. Help people.  Most websites offer content of services that help people.  To me, this is one of the biggest parts of being a webmaster.

Why do you like being a webmaster?  Please comment.

Yeah, that’s the thing. You are your own boss. And if you have a tech/software review site, you get complimentary licenses of software from developers for free! :)

I only read two of your post and I was amaze how good your article is. Very substantial. For me, one of the things I like being a webmaster is being my own boss and freedom.

I definitely agree with you on a lot of these points. I just think that nothing beats that feeling of creating your first website though. You’re eager to get started and dominate, and even thought you are inexperienced – you will never feel the same way about a website like you did your first. That’s my favorite part about being a webmaster.
