Have you visited 70 link building Techniques? If you have, you will see that there are over 70 comments and more and more are coming in every day. Same for 20 Link Baiting and Why Wordpress Sucks. These posts where promoted on just one forum. They are all my highest visited pages by far. Forum posting is one of the best ways to promote your site or blog. Here are my threads which are still going strong, giving me page views and subscribers while I just sit here replying to all the comments.

The link baiting one is just starting and doesn’t look that good yet, but it will continue to grow. Wordpess Sucks thread(not shown) has been around for three days.
The 70 Link building Techniques thread has over 2000 views. Not all of them click through to the page but many do. I would say that’s pretty good amount of views for just writing a paragraph about why you should read the article. Plus, it is still going, and it builds my profile on the forum since many people see it.
Now that I have your attention, it’s time to help you get traffic off of promoting in forums. It follows a three step system:
- Create a quality article related to the category you are placing the thread in.
- Build your forum profile
- Promote your article while following the rules of the forum
Easy? Lets get started.
Find a Forum
You need to find a forum related to your topic or niche that is basically the most popular. For me, it’s Digital Point, a webmasters forum. However, for you it can be completely different. It is beneficial to post in different related forums, but find one that is your primary forum. The rest will basically be for promoting your articles. Make sure that you will not get banned for promoting articles. All forums will say you cannot link spam, but that is not what we are doing. Look if others promote articles and do not get banned.
When you get in the forum, post the minimum amount of posts you need to place links on your threads for now. Some forums make you wait a few days before you can post links. That’s okay, I have stuff for you to do.
Create a Quality Article
Quality is very important when promoting on forums. If the article is boring or had been said before your thread will quickly be buried. Try to do something new and exciting. Lists work really really well. A controversial article works just as good. However, your thread will be kept alive by people who hate your views so don’t expect to receive a ton of comments that make you feel good or subscribers. A debatable post works really good because some people will actually side with you and subscribe. These threads tend to last a long time.
Your article has to be related to the forum you are posting in. A football article will not go very well in a webmasters forum for example. Make sure that you also know the best category to place it in.
Build Your Forum Profile
You want to get some notice around the forum. Answer people’s questions, ask questions, provide a free service for people (ex: a website review), est. You need to get out there. If your forum has a signature put your site’s links in it. Add a unique photo, this really helps people to remember you. Make sure to fill out your profile completely. Post threads that will get a lot of views. Basically, do anything and everything to get known.
I recommend at least 100 posts before you move on to the next step. You will find that this really isn’t that hard. Try to build some reputation also, and make sure to never break the rules.
Promote Your Article
After doing all that, it is time to get to the most important part: promoting your article. Make sure that you don’t just put something stupid like, "awesome article" and leave your link. That is considered link spamming. You want to create a paragraph or two about why someone should read your article. If it is quality, this should be easy to do. At the end leave your link. Put the keyword your targeting as your anchor text. Your forums is probably Nofollow but you might as well. (if you don’t know putting keywords in the text that your link is located helps with your search engine placement)
Now sit back and watch. If your thread goes down to the second page, bump it up by replying to someone who posted on your thread. Eventually, your replies won’t bump the thread anymore, but if your title and article is good the thread should stay at the first page for a while.
If you get replies that say something like "I already know that" or something else negative, you need to work on making better articles. In this case, you might as well give up on the thread and work on more articles.
Warnings
- Make sure you always follow the rules of the forum.
- Never link spam.
- Never insult anyone for disliking your article.
- Don’t just write "Bump" to bump up an article. Write a well thought out reply to someone’s comment.
- Don’t promote every article you write on forums.

Thanks. I hope to do something along those lines, maybe a series of posts. I don’t know if I can really tell people yet though. I only have 8 subscribers.):

There are two things that you have mentioned
1) What is the best time to post (midnight is the best time to submit a story in DIGG.com as per INDIAn timings)
2) Similarly there must be some time where most of the members participate
Posting at that time would be really beneficial

Definitely. Sorry, that I haven’t replied till now, I guess I didn’t see your comment. I’m glad that you found my articles in forums.

Well thought out article. I think promoting the articles you write is a missing link in the whole article marketing arena. I know most people do it just for the links but you can have some fun with it too. Yes?

I agree, it seems that few people promote their articles.

Whew, didn’t know how much promotion in forums can do in one’s blog until now. Thanks for sharing and even showing a picture “proof” that this really
works
I was about to sign up with your feed by email, but got an error message that it’s currently disabled. I just subscribed in your RSS feed
Cheers,

Thanks for the comment. Yea, I couldn’t believe how much traffic they can easily bring. The traffic has really helped this blog start up and build a readership.
Thanks a ton for pointing out the email subscription error, and also for still subscribing.

Great tips there. Forums also help if you give freebies away.

Well I do have two questions for you
1) There are no ADS in your blog…Reason ??
2) From how many years are you blogging ?

My parents will not allow me to post ads at this time. Also, I don’t have that much traffic yet.
I have been blogging for a little over a month. This blog is founded on the principle: from a from a beginners perspective. Hence, the name Web Journey (I am going through my own web journey while my visitors are also).

Probably you might be a expert in doing the above things.(I feel).
I have come across your page only once in google search. But later I want to continue reading all other posts.
I am learning atleast one point from your individual posts.
Great work

Thanks a lot. Yea, my site really isn’t really receiving much traffic from Google right now.
I am somewhat of an expert (it’s really easy to become one) on promoting on forums because of results. Thanks for the compliment.
I’m glad I could teach you something!

Cool stuff. Personally I was never too sure whether it was actually allowed on a few forums, but I’ll give it a go and see what happens

Yea, well I know it’s allowed on DP. They say in the rules that it’s okay as long as you put a summary of the article.
Oh, thanks I fixed the image.
